Peace O' Soap Project
Peace O' Soap is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing herbal soap and herbal soapmaking skills to relieve human suffering from disease and empower people mentally & ecconomically.
As simple as it seems, soap is the crucial ingredient in preventing the transmission of diseases, like parasites and other communicable diseases & infections. Having the ability to make herbal soap can also provide financial opportunities for people to run their own business and raise their families. Our current mission is to assist the women & girls of Panzi Hospital run by Dr. Denis Mukwege in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Currently, rape is being used as a tool of war against women, and girls as young as 10 are being raped and their sexual organs are being mutilated with machetes and knives. This is truly an act of genocide... Dr. Mukwege has committed to helping the DRC women & girls by repairing the fistulas and damage that cause incontinence, sterility & pain. My awareness to this horrendous tragedy was brought about by a story on PRI's "The World". As the reporter, Jeb Sharp, explained the conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo and highlighted individual stories, one phrase stood out for me..."the only bar of soap that the Dr. and the surgical staff have is locked up every night..."
I was stunned and in a blue fog because of the atrocious acts of rape, I was amazed that something as simple as soap was something that the hospital had to struggle to get and keep. I never under estimate the power of one person to make a difference and I immediately understood that I know how to make soap and I could help in this simple, but profound way.
You can help too.
If you make soap, please donate a batch. I will arrange to pick it up or send a UPS pickup. Or you can donate the money to us, ($50) and we can donate a batch in your name to Panzi Hospital or to Heal Africa.
